A pretty strong post there. I agree that the world seemed a little messed up, but really, it depends on what you focus your attention on.

With regard to the "presidential election", I assume you meant that one in Taiwan, and not in US? Cuz I don't really follow the US election (I don't know how it works! haha! Clinton and Obama are from the same party, yet they seem to be the worst rival of each other...), and I think you are like me :P

Perhaps you will think that it's an act of denial, but I would still encourage you to look at some good things happening around us. Altruism goes unnoticed by the media more often than not. Like the humanitarian efforts in Africa, the raising awareness of environmentalism, technological advances... it's ok to be down at times, but life's yours to pick up.

Oh, and I was in another building, not Bio :) Didn't get much action myself.

<blockquote> I guess it was a sudden depression that night, as the result of this UBC Lockdown incident. I woke up the next morning and everything's back to normal. To me, the view of the world stays positive.
The election part applie to both US and Taiwan, but obviously the one in Taiwan is more of a prominent example.
I love all the positive things that happens around the world as you mentioned, and most of the time I focus my attention to those and get excited about them. I think it's the proximity effect of the UBC Lockdown event that lead to this blog post, don't worry, I'm back to the optimistic David now.

Yes, Ellen, I finally wrote in English. I almost wanted to just write in chinese again, and then I remembered my promise ^^

It's ironic how teachers and parents always pushes us to read newspaper and follow up on world event, but all we get out of doing that is getting depressed about the world we're living in. I think, perhaps, we are better off sometimes to just live in denial.

The UBC incident is the trigger that led me to write this blog. All these events are just getting closer and more personal to our living circle, threatening to move into our comfort zone. it's sad that people only start to care intensively about certain event when it break their bubble of naive world. My best friend was in the BIO SCI building when the incident occurred, and you'll find out more if you follow the link I place in that paragraph....

I think I'm just gonna go back to live in denial, best strategy to combat all these tragedy. Thank you for commenting on my blog!

heyyy david
u wrote in ENGLISH!!!!
thanks man, i had a great time reading it. lol

anyways, abt the news
i totally know what u mean
it seemed as if murders are becoming more common these days
there'll be at least a few in the 24 everyday = =
as for the elections,
i guess it's just harder to persuade ppl to like u than to persuade them to dislike ur opponent.

the ubc lockdown was freaky!
i was in the middle of work when i got the email.
and it turns out that one of my co-worker's wife work in that building at the time.
sigh...universities and their threats. = =

ohhh the depression will pass eventually.
one day u'll wake up in the morning,
and u'll just be sick and tired of feeling depressed.
it's an exhausting emotion, that's what i think anyway.
